In this season, the hazelnuts price in Georgia will teeter from seven to nine GEL.
The price will increase by three GEL than it was in 2019, Executive Director of the Association of Hazelnut Producers of Georgia Giorgi Todua told report.ge.
In his words, the yield of hazelnuts in comparison with 2019 will allegedly increase by 15 thousand tonnes and exceed 50 thousand tonnes.
Todua says the farmers will receive an income of 0.5 billion GEL.
Giorgi Todua adds that the novel coronavirus pandemic will not adversely affect hazelnut exports.
"In recent years, our markets have been Italy, Germany and several other European countries. Currently, we have not any problems in these markets. We are in intense cooperation with our partners, and I can say that nothing threatens export. The projected cost of hazelnuts in the local markets will be seven - nine GEL," Todua stated.
He also added that specific success was achieved in walnut growing in the fight against Asian stink bugs.
The Georgian Hazelnut Producers Association unifies 25,000 farmers, owning 30,000 hectares of plantations.
In 2019, hazelnuts cost six GEL in western Georgia.
