Georgia granted 78.7% of the demand for power in the first quarter of 2020 through local generation, while the rest was imported from Russia and Azerbaijan, the Galt & Taggart research reads.

Following the study, the generation of HPPs decreased by 1.9% annually and granted 46,4% of the Jan-March demand.

''Bad meteorological conditions caused the decrease,'' the report says.

The volume of power, generated by the Enguri-Vardnila HPP, was spent on the increased consumption in the Abkhazia region.

The region also imported electricity from Russia via the Salkhino transmission line.

The generation of thermal power stations decreased annually by 11.7%, while it increased by 42.1% in the same period of 2019.

The wind power plant generation included 0.7% of total supply,

The power imports increased annually by 39.6% in the first quarter of 2020, granting 21.3% of the demand.

As Galt & Taggart reports, the power imports from Azerbaijan and Russia included 54.1% and 45.9%, respectively.

The most considerable growth was detected in February 2020 with +119%, and the imports increased by 17.9% and 4.3% in January and March, respectively.

Galt & Taggart says the imports included 29 million USD, which is a 25.7% annual growth.

Traditionally, the power export was low in January – March 2020.

In the first quarter of 2020, the electricity transit included 51.1 GW from Azerbaijan to Turkey.

It means the transited volume increased by 3,4 times compared to the same period of 2019 and lags behind the highest level of 2016 only by 10%.

Notably, power consumption decreased by 7.8% in March 2020. Specialists project the drop to continue until September.
