Persian Gulf-Black Sea transport corridor starts operations

A new transport corridor that will connect the Persian Gulf to the Black Sea through Iran, Azerbaijan, and Georgia has started operations in the test mode.

Official representatives of Azerbaijani, Georgia, and Iran have been involved in the event laying the foundation of the new transport corridor.

Director-General of the Transit and International Affairs Department of Iran Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization (RMTO) Javad Hedayati noted that the new corridor aims to develop economic and transport links.

In Hedayati's words, after the completion of the test mode cargo transportation, a trilateral meeting will be held, and the agreement on simplifying the transportation will be reached.

''A 20 million tons of cargo is set to be transported via the corridor. This figure will increase to 50 mln tons after 20 years,'' Javad Hedayati declared.
