Renovated airport opens in Batumi

A renovated airport opened in Batumi today, the expansion of which was conditioned by the increase of passenger flow. In 2019, the number of passengers exceeded 600,000. Up to 300 locals were employed during the construction process.

"With the development and renovation of the airport, its capacity has doubled, and now it can serve 1,200,000 passengers a year," Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili stated during his speech at the opening of the new terminal of Batumi International Airport.

According to him, the company "TAV" has invested 17 million dollars.

"Direct flights from Israel have already started today; daily flights from Turkey will be added. Adjara is ready to receive tourists. Investments like this one are significant during the pandemic; in just six months, the company completed the work," said Irakli Gharibashvili.

Despite the Covid-19 pandemic and the economic crisis caused by it, TAV Georgia did not stop the construction work and increased the investment amount from 14 to 17 million dollars.

As part of the project, the existing passenger terminal building was expanded, both on the departure and arrival sides. The new terminal building area has been increased from 4000 square meters to 8000 square meters.

The Duty-Free Zone, Business Lounge, and Airport Car Parking have also been expanded. International standard catering facilities have been added to the airport.

The Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili, the President and CEO of TAV Holding Sani Sener, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Natia Turnava, members of the Cabinet of Ministers, representatives of the diplomatic corps, the leadership of TAV Georgia, and guests attended the official opening ceremony.
