Georgia plans to install the snow-protective galleries on the Georgian section of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway, the Center for the Study of the Transport Corridor of Georgia reports.

This decision aims to increase the speed of movement via the BTK railway.

The galleries will be unique, with no analogs, with a total length of 2,433 meters.

The project includes the construction of four modern metal corrugated structures from Poland and can endure for a century.

As a reminder, the Georgian section of the BTK railway passes through the Alpine zone, where the winter temperature drops to -30 ° C, with severe precipitation, and the time of transportation of goods on the BTK decreases.

The cargo owners show a growing interest in BTK. In June, transportation of new types of cargo began via the railway.

The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway made a significant contribution to trade between Turkey and the other world during the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The BTK Railway will shortly start operation in its full workload.

The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway opened on October 30, 2017. It connects the railway networks of Asia and Europe.

BTK helps the time for cargo transportation halve. The railway also facilitates Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan to access the European and other markets.

The total length of the BTK railway is 846 km. A total of 504 km passes in Azerbaijan, 263 km - in Georgia and 79 km - in Turkey.
