Despite the billions spent on universal health care project, the Government has not been able to achieve the desired results and spendings on medical care by patients remain high. In the past 7 year payments have decreased by 18% but the Minister of Health is unhappy with the numbers. According to Ekaterine Tikaradze, the solution is in regulating state prices. Private sector officials say that leveling tariffs could threaten clinics on the market and government instead of improving the quality with make the situation worse.
“The prices that will be imposed, should be realistic so that we can perform surgeries and treat patients well. If the government sets prices that are way too low, then the quality of operations will be very low as well. The qualified surgeons will leave the country, the younger generation will no longer have the motivation and overall the level will go down", said Madonna Jugheli, the Doctor of medicine.
