Turkey ratifies protocol of the Tripartite Customs Committee with Azerbaijan and Georgia

The Turkish government has approved a protocol for establishing a tripartite commission on customs issues between the governments of Azerbaijan and Georgia. According to Report.ge, Azerbaijani media reports about it.

It should be noted that the Customs Committee between the three countries was established in October last year in the city of Izmir, Turkey.

The Tripartite Committee will coordinate, facilitate and develop cooperation between the parties, as well as define the main areas and directions of cooperation.

The Committee shall consider ways and means of enhancing cooperation between the parties on customs matters; Facilitating and simplifying border crossings, ensuring their security; Sharing knowledge and best practices in the field of customs policies and procedures, executive functions; Coordinate law enforcement cooperation in customs matters, take joint operational measures to combat smuggling, and cooperate in other areas.

The co-chairs of the Committee are the heads of the customs services of the parties. Working groups on risk management and statistics will be set up as part of the collaboration.

Committee meetings will be held once a year. The next meeting will be held in Baku.
