How to care for pets in the spring?

With the arrival of spring, the topic of treating our domestic pets, dogs and cats from parasites becomes quite relevant, so we offer some recommendations from the Vet of veterinary clinic "AB-Vet Buneba" Izy Miminoshvili, who prepared these recommendations specially for the Facebook group "Pet-Pet" .

With approaching of warm weather animals must be prevented from ectoparasites. We start processing them in early spring and finish in late autumn. If the winter is with a warm climate, it is necessary to use the preventive measures periodically during this period as well.

There are several ways to treat pets from external parasites:

✔️Pills - There are pills with a one-month effect as well as a three-month protection.

✔️Drops - It is necessary to use drops once in 3 weeks.

✔️Spray - It is best to use spray only once a week - directly before going out to the street.

✔️Collar - The collar has a multi-month protection mechanism.

The most effective mechanism for protecting animals from parasites is, uniquely, a combination of pills, drops and a collar!

We must refrain from treating with above mentioned treats pregnant animals!

Puppies and kittens up to 2 months are treated with a special antiparasitic powder.

If animal parasites are not treated properly and in a timely manner, there is a risk that the dog will become infected with a dangerous disease such as leishmaniasis. It is prevented in Georgia only by means of antiparasitic drops, which are instilled on the animal's body!

In very rare cases, in allergic animals, antiparasitic drops may cause a backlash. The animal may start to have redness on the skin, itching and restlessness, but that does not mean we should stop using the medication. In this case, the medicine must be changed and monitored again after use. In such a case, it is better to refer to Vet for treatment.

If you notice a parasitic bite or a tick in the skin of your pet, it is best to take it to a veterinarian immediately. Do not remove the mite arbitrarily, by hand, because at this time the mite develops a protective reaction and allows parasites to enter the body from the vestibular apparatus. Also, the tick's head may get stuck in the animal's skin, which can cause dermatitis and other problems. Tick bites can cause diseases such as piroplasmosis and others.

If you find a mite on an animal's body, it makes no sense to do the blood test because no parasite is seen in the blood on the first day.
