Scientists have studied alcoholic tendencies among animals and learned that the small rat sized mammal, the pen-tailed treeshrew (Ptilocercus lowii), sup naturally occurring 3.8 per cent proof palm beer every night (10-12 standard glasses).
Despite spending at least two hours drinking on its flower bud pub crawls, the treeshrew never gets tipsy and this, with its body neutralizing the effect of alcohol and keeping the animal sober.
The Ptilocercidae are a family of primates. The length of their body ranges from 10 to 25 cm and weight from 30 to 350 g. They have 38 teeth and are slender animals with long tails and soft, greyish to reddish-brown fur.
