The Guardian: When will pandemic end and what is an endemic?

"How will the COVID-19 pandemic end? The virus will not disappear - it will turn into an endemic disease," the British edition of The Guardian published an article by scientific journalist Laura Spin.

"The conclusion is clear: countries will not be able to escape COVID-19, but they will learn to live with it.

As a result, we get the endemic disease; it is the constant existence of the disease in a certain area for a long period of time. More precisely, this means that the disease-causing virus Sars-CoV-2 will always remain in the population, and its circulation will lead to more or less predictable outbreaks at certain intervals.

One thing is clear: the transition to endemism will take place at different times in different countries and regions," the publication writes.

The author of the article notes that sooner or later, all countries will reach endemicity.

"In other words, it is a race to the finish. At this stage, vaccines protect us individually and not collectively. But the form that endemic disease will take will be formed collectively.

The future of Covid-19 may be as mild as the usual cold, although it is possible that it will turn into a more severe form. In any case, it will put a lot of pressure on the healthcare system in a few years," reads the article.
