Tbilisi Deputy Mayor, Ilia Eloshvili, states that the planned construction in Varketili does not affect the “Anas Baghi” (Anna’s Garden). He says that the construction is planned on the territory neighboring the Garden. At the same time, he states that the construction investor is ready to add 200 sq.m to the Garden in case the local self-government adds 300 more sq.m. to expand the Garden. In this case, the investor takes the responsibility to provide amenities of the Garden.
The Varketili residents started their protest against the building construction on the territory of “Anas Baghi” on January 10.
Ten individuals have been detained at the protest rally in the vicinity of "Anas Baghi" (Ann's Garden) in Varketili District, according to the MIA. Four out of ten were released. The court session is scheduled for January 15.
Protesters did not let the representatives of a construction company move freely, with this leading to clashes among them.
The proceedings have been instituted against the detainees under articles 173 and 166, envisaging petty hooliganism and failure to obey a police order.
