Minister: State of Emergency does not restrict food shopping

According to the Minister of Environment and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili, food outlets will work in standard mode during the state of emergency. He said that the crowding of the food shops and markets amid the epidemy is inapplicable. He considers that the owners and the managers of the shops must consider sanitation and hygiene recommendations given by the government.

“Neither interruption nor delay is expected in the food supply unless it is artificially created. The population and the trading nets must consider the distance between the customers to be 1.5 meters. The groundless panic creating the masses of customers in the shops and markets is unacceptable during the epidemic.

There is no food product deficiency foreseen in the country. The most important today is to follow the rules and recommendations to prevent the virus spread as much as possible.” – said

Georgia has declared a state of emergency with the pandemic. The President declared the decision upon the request from the Prime Minister. The Parliament summoned the emergency session to vote for the decree.
