Masked attackers break into Georgian bishop's house, hoping to find sacks of cash

Armed raiders have broken into the house of Metropolitan bishop Saba (Gigiberia) of Khoni and Samtredia, searching for two sacks of cash, Rustavi 2 reports.

The attackers, reportedly, tied the metropolitan's 90-year-old mother, 12-year-old niece, and a housekeeper. Afterward, they asked the child to tell them where the money was.

To the question of whether large amounts of cash were really stored in the hose, the bishop and his family members refused to respond.

However, according to the case files, the bishop has already denied the existence of cash in his house.

One of the defendants, Robert Goderidze, 70, resides in the diocese headed by the bishop. His son, reportedly, served in the same diocese.

Mr. Goderidze was sentenced to 9 years in prison after the Prosecutor's Office submitted the corresponding evidence to the court.

The investigation continues.
