The fuel is controlled by four or five main components in Georgia.

Head of the Union of Oil Importers, Vano Mtvralashvili, says that Georgia is yet far from the modern standards, as the European standard includes at least ten components.

In his words, the laboratories experience a lack of technical equipment, which serves an obstacle for the monitoring.

He says petrol is controlled under five components: sulfur, benzol, aromatic hydrocarbons, octanol, and lead indicators. For diesel, we see four elements: sulfur, stiffness, cetane number, and polycyclic hydrocarbons.

''If we want to improve the quality, we should add the components like the EU countries,'' Mtvralashvili says.

The SOCAR Company agrees with the viewpoint of Georgia's Business Association regarding the fuel quality control in Georgia. The association states that the components should be added to the criteria that evaluate the fuel quality.
