A team of researchers from the University of Hong Kong has developed stainless steel that can neutralize coronavirus infection in a matter of hours, Bloomberg news agency writes.
According to reports, the newly developed alloy can destroy the coronavirus by 99.75% in three hours and 99.99% in six hours.
The publication notes that negotiations are underway with various companies. In the future, it is planned that the newly created metal will be used for elevator buttons, door handles, railings, and other vulnerable surfaces.
Scientists note that if steel proves to be effective, it would significantly reduce the spread of infection and the cost of regular disinfection of public places.
