The Head of National Center for Disease Control and Public Health, Amiran Gamkrelidze, in his evaluation of the C Hepatitis Elimination Program, talked on the medicaments’ expire date.
According to him, a state must have a strategic stock, and there is no emergency if the stock validity expires.
He also mentioned that Georgia has a 10-year agreement with the USA party and no problems related to the medication shortage is expected for the next year.
“We treat 1000 – 1200 patients per month, hence it is essential to have a stock of medicaments. Some people who reject the offered treatment. The government must be ready to treat them if they change their mind. We have the stock of other medicaments as well, which are not utilized at full; the stock is renewed as soon as the validity expires. Sixteen thousand people are antigen-positive but refused to get medication at this stage. We are ready to cure them if they decide to join the C Hepatitis Elimination Program.” – said Amiran Gamkrelidze.
