The Civil Protection Department said Tuesday that 78 people have died with the coronavirus in the last 24 hours in Italy, taking the total up to 32,955.

That was down from Monday's daily rise in the death toll of 92. There were 22 fresh deaths in Lombardy, down from a rise of 34 Monday.
The department said there were 397 new cases in the last 24 hours, up from Monday's tally of 300.
Four regions - Sardinia, Calabria, Molise and Basilicata - and the province of Bolzano registered zero new infections.
It said 44,658 people have now recovered from COVID-19 here, up 2,677. Monday's rise was 1,502.
The department said 144,658 people have now recovered from the coronavirus in Italy, 2,677 more than Monday.
It said 52,942 people are currently with the coronavirus, down 2,358 with respect to Monday. The total number of cases in Italy, including the currently positive, the deceased and those who have recovered, is now 230,555.
It said 521 coronavirus patients in Italy are currently in intensive care, 20 down on Monday.
