European Commission President says they will respond to Russia's aggressive behavior

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen calls upon Russia to deescalate the situation at Ukraine's border.

The Commission President stressed that if Russia acts against its neighbors, the EU will levy stricter sanctions against the country as well as set new restrictions.

Ursula von der Leyen pointed out that she supports developing amicable relations with Russia, which may prove possible only if Russia poses no threats to its neighbors.

To a journalist's question of whether the Nord Stream 2 can be subject to sanctions, the Commission president emphasized that energy security must be ensured and cannot be used as a pressure tool. However, she also stressed that 'if there is aggression, the response will follow.'
