Former United States Secretary of State Colin Powell has died at the age of 84 due to complications caused by the coronavirus, CNN reports.

Powell's family confirmed the information on Facebook.

"We have lost a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, and a great American," the statement issued by the family said.

The family confirms that Powell was fully vaccinated.

Colin Powell served as Secretary of State from 2001-2005.

Powell arrived in Tbilisi on January 24, 2004, as the US Secretary of State. On January 25, he attended the inauguration of Mikheil Saakashvili. During the visit, Colin Powell met with officials as well as members of the public.
