A protest rally in front of the Congress building in the US capital, Washington, has resulted in casualties. Four people were killed as a result, including three outside the building and one woman inside Congress. Fourteen police officers were injured after the protesters stormed the building; two were taken to hospital with severe injuries. Police arrested more than 52 protesters.
Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser has extended the state of emergency in the capital for 15 days due to the developments. The state of emergency in Washington will be lifted from the second day of the inauguration of elected President Joe Biden.
