The Ministry of Health of Japan has discovered a new, UK strain of coronavirus.
Local media say there are three infected citizens in the eastern prefecture of Saitama, who had communicated with a man previously infected with the "British" strain.
Citizens infected with the new strain are under the supervision of medical personnel.
In total, 64 cases of infection with the "British" strain of COVID-19 were detected in Japan.
To prevent the spread of the new strain, Japan's borders were closed until February 7.
