Mali President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita has announced the dissolution of the constitutional court in an attempt to calm unrest.

The court has been at the center of controversy after it overturned provisional results for parliamentary elections.

Mali's president repealed the licenses of the members of the constitutional court. He believes that this de facto dissolution of the court will enable them, from next week, to ask relevant authorities to nominate new members so that the reformed court can quickly help find solutions to the disputes arising from the legislative elections.

Based on foreign media, nine members of the constitutional court have already resigned, and one has died.

The president says that the dissolution of the court will support Mali to implement the West African countries' economic society's recommendations to revise the results of the elections and organize new voting.
