The American pharmaceutical company Moderna intends to use mRNA technology based on the COVID-19 vaccine and create other vaccines, including drugs against influenza, HIV, and Zika, Bloomberg writes.

"For Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel, the COVID vaccine is just the beginning. He has long promised that if mRNA technology is justified, it will lead to a giant new industry that can treat almost anything starting with heart disease, cancer, and rare genetic diseases," the publication said.

Moderna is currently testing drugs for various categories of diseases. Bancel said his company could become a dominant manufacturer of vaccines. In particular, ten new vaccines against the virus are already being tested or developed for testing, including COVID-19 "boosters," vaccines against seasonal flu, HIV, and others. In addition, vaccines against new viruses such as Nipah and Zika, as well as more well-known serious pathogenic diseases, are currently being developed.

More than fifty viruses have been detected worldwide in the last 40 years. Only three of them have vaccines developed and approved.
