A new variant of the coronavirus AY.4.2, which may become more contagious than the "Delta" strain, was discovered in a child who returned to Israel. The information is spread by Israel's 12th channel based on the country's Ministry of Health.
"Strain AY.4.2, previously reported in several European countries, was detected in Israel in an 11-year-old boy who had returned from abroad. The test was performed at Ben Gurion Airport," the statement said.
The media notes that the child was in isolation after returning from abroad and had not contacted anyone.
Health agencies do not specify where the child came from.
