For the first time, the state of New York will have a female governor, a 62-year-old Kathy Hochul, The New York Times writes.
Hochul will be sworn in public today at 10:00 am local time.
Karen Persichilli Keogh has been appointed as the Secretary to the governor, and Elizabeth Fine has been appointed as an adviser. Accordingly, all three leading positions in the executive branch of the state of New York will be held by women.
Since 2015, Hochul has held the position of Vice-Governor in the administration of Governor Andrew Cuomo.
