Novavax's new coronavirus vaccine is 89.3% more effective against the original and deadly virus strain found in the UK. British specialists concluded based on large-scale experiments, BBC reports.
More than 15,000 people between the ages of 18-84 participated in the third phase of the Novavax vaccine clinical trial. 27% of them were over 65.
The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson called the information "good news". He said the country's medical regulator should now evaluate the drug.
The UK government has pre-ordered 60 million doses of the Novavax vaccine. If approved by the regulatory body - MHRA, the first doses will be received in the second half of this year.
Before that, the UK is already being vaccinated with Oxford-AstraZeneca and Pfizer-BioNTech. The UK has ordered 100 million doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca and 40 million doses of Pfizer-BioNTech.
