The 11th president of the country is elected in the Israeli Knesset today.
There are two candidates for the presidency. These are Isaac Herzog, Chairperson of the Jewish Agency for Israel, and Miriam Peretz, the second female presidential candidate in the country’s history to receive the prestigious 2018 Israeli Award.
The term of the current President of Israel, Reuven Rivlin, expires on June 9.
The president of the country is elected for a term of 7 years. It is impossible to hold a position for two terms.
