South African writer Damon Galgut received the 2021 Booker Prize for his feature novel "The Promise."

The winner was announced at an official ceremony on November 3rd. Information is available on the website.

Damon Galgut has already been presented at the Booker Prize three times and was on the shortlist in 2003 and 2010.

"The Promise" is the writer's 9th novel, but the first in the last seven years. It is dedicated to revealing the problem of apartheid in South Africa.

The author says the idea for the work came from a conversation with a friend who is the only one who survived in his family.

"A brutal emotional truth, a strong story about a family destroyed and a tormented land," the website writes about the novel.
