Ilia Chavchavadze Literary-Memorial Museum opens in Tbilisi

The rehabilitated Ilia Chavchavadze Literary-Memorial Museum will host its visitors starting from tomorrow on 7 Javakshishvili str. 

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze and Deputy Mayor Andria Basilaia were present at the opening ceremony of the museum. Kakha Kaladze addressed the attendants. 

In his speech, Kaladze thanked the Tbilisi Development Fund for its large-scale efforts and emphasized the role of employees of the Union of Tbilisi Museums in preserving each exhibit.

Rehabilitation of the museum started in 2017 within the framework of the museum development subprogram of the Tbilisi Development Fund project called New Tbilisi. 

According to the Tbilisi City Hall, large-scale rehabilitation efforts have been carried out for three years. 

Exhibition and memorial areas were refurbished, with different historic objects displayed there. 

Ilia Chavchavadze's living room, bedroom, and cabinets have been restored.

The museum has a reading room and libraries in addition to memorial and exhibition areas. 

The building is adjusted to the needs of PWD. 

Ilia Chavchavadze, together with his spouse Olga Guramishvili, lived in the house of his sister Elisabed Chavchavadze-Saginashvili between 1888 and 1901 on 7 Javakshishvili str, Tbilisi.
