"Our country has gained another international recognition. Europa Nostra Award goes to Vardzia Complex Conservation Program after international recognition of the Mutso Rehabilitation Program," Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili writes on Facebook.
According to Irakli Gharibashvili, together with the Cartu Foundation and the Italian Institute of Geological Survey, the government has ensured a drastic improvement in the structural condition of the rock-cut complex in a short period of time.
"The nomination application submitted by Georgia to the European Commission and the organization Europe Nostra became one of the winners of the conservation category along with eight other nominees, who were named as exemplary achievements. The successful pilot project laid the foundation for the "State Program for the Protection of Rock Heritage," which will help save other similar monuments in Georgia," Irakli Gharibashvili writes.
