A painting by Vincent van Gogh seized by the Nazis during the Second World War occupation of France has sold at auction in New York for $35.9 million.
The painting "Wheat Stacks" was created by Van Gogh in 1888. It sold for $ 6 million more than expected.
After Van Gogh's death, his brother inherited the "Wheat Stacks." The work then changed several owners, after which it fell into the hands of the Nazis. Since then, the location of the painting remained unknown until the late 1970s, before Christie's bought it from an American company.
