Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan plan joint exploitation of Dostluk field

Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan plan joint exploitation activities on the Dostluk (Friendship) field. The technical director of GaffneyCline Petroleum Consulting Company, Stephen Wright, says that independent assessment of the Dostluk field will maximize benefits following its joint commissioning. Mr. Wright stressed that detailed information could be obtained in this realm today, which will help Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan make crucial decisions on planning joint activities on the field.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov met with the CEO of State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), Rovnag Abdullayev last week to discuss cooperation issues in the oil and gas industry and the future benefits of Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan's joint activities on the Dostluk field.

Earlier, the President of SOCAR Rovnag Abdullayev said at the International Investment Forum in the Oil and Gas Sector of Turkmenistan that "SOCAR is ready to share the capabilities of the Southern Gas Corridor pipeline systems and the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline with Turkmen companies". According to Abdullayev, using the great potential of these energy corridors to transport the richest Turkmen resources to international markets is commercially profitable for all parties.

Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan agreed to study the Dostluk field hydrocarbon resources on 21 January 2021, when the parties signed the Memorandum of Understanding. The Memorandum opens up new prospects for cooperation, which creates beneficial conditions for attracting foreign investments to both countries, creating new work opportunities, and improving the standard of life.

The development of the Dostluk (Friendship) field in the Caspian Sea by Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan will make it possible to export natural gas to Europe, Deputy Chairman of Turkmengaz State Concern Guvanch Agajanov said during the plenary session of the International Forum on attracting foreign investments to the oil and gas sector of Turkmenistan, Report. az informs.

The possibility of exporting gas from Turkmenistan to European countries will become possible if the Trans-Caspian Gas Pipeline project is implemented, which in turn can be connected to the Southern Gas Corridor connecting Azerbaijan with the EU countries through Georgia and Turkey.
