Based on the court decision, employees of the Prosecutor's Office of Georgia arrested G.A., a former employee of Gldani N8 institution of the Penitentiary Department, on charges of degrading and inhuman treatment of prisoners.

As Report.ge was informed by the Prosecutor's Office, the investigation revealed that in 2010-2012, a former employee of the security department of the N8 institution of the Penitentiary Department, G.A., together with other staff members of the same facility, physically abused and humiliated prisoners. G.A. was violent. He abused the prisoners verbally and physically. Violence against the same prisoners for the purpose of obedience was systematic. The investigation also established that the former employee of the security department of the N8 facility of the Penitentiary Department removed prisoners from the cell on his own and placed them in a bath building of the facility where they were physically assaulted. In order to morally torture the prisoners, there were threats of sexual violence against them.

"The criminal case is being investigated under Article 1443, Part 2, Subparagraphs "a", "b", "d", "e", "z" of the Criminal Code of Georgia and the first part of Article 333. The measure provides for four to six years in prison.

Evidence obtained by the investigation once again confirmed that the cruel and inhuman treatment of prisoners was a practice introduced at Facility N8, which was systemic aimed to humiliate, intimidate and cause obedience of prisoners. As a result of the investigation of prisoners' ill-treatment, up to 80 employees of the penitentiary system have been charged.

The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia continues to work in this direction," the agency said.
