As part of the 19th session of the Rome Statute member countries assembly, Georgian nominee Gocha Lortkipanidze was elected an ICC judge in New York, Georgia’s Foreign Ministry reports.

Gocha Lortkipanidze will work as the judge from 2021 to 2030.

The Foreign Ministry of Georgia says it is the first case when Georgia’s nominee becomes an International Criminal Court’s judge.

“A total of 17 nominees from different countries competed to hold six vacant positions,’’ the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports.

The ministry says it is grateful for its partner states to show support.
