After reconsideration of the already rendered verdict, the Tbilisi City Court judge ruled to keep Iveri Melashvili and Natalia Ilichova into custody.

A total of 214 people, including politicians, acted as sureties vouching for their innocence at the trial, with the defendants having also expressed their positions.

A pretrial hearing is set to be held at 2 p.m. on January 28 as the prosecution required so.

The country’s Chief Prosecutor’s Office detained Iveri Melashvili, the Head of the Border Relations Service of the Department of Neighboring Countries of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, and Natalia Ilychova, the Chief Inspector of the Land Border Protection Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, on October 7 as part of the investigation into the case of David Gareja.
