Vakhtang Burdzenidze recently detained over the so-called Dampalo cemetery murder, has been sentenced to imprisonment.
As per the Prosecutor's Office, on January 2nd of 2020, at night, Mukhran Chkhvirkaia and Murad Tsurtsumia were in Varketili district, at the so-called Dampalo cemetery, with defendants Zurab Popkhadze and Vakhtang Burdzenidze also being there.
A verbal altercation occurred among the individuals mentioned above since two of them tried to take defendant Zurab Popkhadze's vehicle unlawfully. Defendant Zurab Popkhadze, along with Vakhtang Burdzenidze, attempted to stop Tsurtsumia and Chkhvirkvia from taking the car. The physical altercation continued for a few minutes, during which Zurab Popkhadze and Vakhtang Burdzenidze inflicted fatal bodily injuries upon Murad Tsurtsumia, with this resulting in his subsequent death. Another individual, Mukhran Chkvirkvia, suffered physical pain following the group beating," according to the Prosecutor's Office.
