"Officers of the Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service arrested a representative of the Mayor of Zugdidi Municipality for taking a bribe," the State Security Service said in a statement.
According to the State Security Service, as a result of operative-investigative actions, the Anti-Corruption Agency officers detained a representative of the Mayor of Zugdidi Municipality in Ergeta (Tsvane) administrative unit.
"The investigation establishes that the mentioned person, in exchange for 65,000 USD, in the village of Zugdidi district, located in Ergeta, promised to register ownership of the 5000 sq.m. land on the state balance. The mayor of Zugdidi municipality's representative took a part of the requested amount from the citizen, 15 000 US dollars. He was arrested while receiving the bribe.
An investigation is underway into the fact of taking a large amount of bribe," the State Security Service said.
The fact is being investigated by the Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service.
