"Radical changes in the Eastern Partnership and the Black Sea region since the 5th Eastern Partnership Summit in 2017, including security, energy, health, and other challenges, should be addressed jointly by partner countries through close cooperation with the EU," the joint statement of the Associated Trio - Heads of State / Government of Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, issued after the 6th Eastern Partnership Summit.
The Associated Trio emphasizes that persistent destabilization and violations of the principles of international law pose a serious threat to peace, security, and stability in Europe in many parts of the Eastern Partnership region.
"We welcome the EU 's active efforts in conflict resolution and confidence-building and call on it to strengthen its role in promoting peace and stability in the Eastern Partnership region, through all necessary measures, including appropriate restrictive measures if necessary. We call on EU leaders to address these issues at their European Council meeting on 16 December 2021. We note that Russia's illegal occupation of Georgian territories and attempts to annex them, its aggression in eastern Ukraine and the temporary occupation of Crimea, as well as the unresolved conflict in the Transnistria region of the Republic of Moldova pose a serious threat to the region and Europe as a whole," the joint statement said.
