The official website of the President of France published a communiqué on the meeting of the President of the French Republic and the President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, at the Triumphal Arch on September 28, 2021. The text of the communiqué is published by the Administration of the President of Georgia.

"On Tuesday, September 28, 2021, the President of the French Republic, together with the President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, led the ceremony dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the recognition of Georgia by France in January 1921. This special ceremony underscores the importance of relations between the two countries and the special role played by France in the last century in protecting Georgia's freedom, territorial sovereignty, and independence.

The common history and close ties established between the French and Georgian people underlie the special relationship that unites our two countries around the idea of freedom. The incarnation of this is the service and sacrifice of Lieutenant Colonel Amilakhvar to Free France in 1942 in El-Alamein, a Lieutenant Colonel known for words: "We, the foreigners, can only prove to France in one way that we are grateful for our acceptance, it is death for this country."

France, which has stood by Georgia in the most difficult moments of its history, will continue to support it in maintaining stability and strengthening democracy. It reaffirms its commitment to the ever-deeper establishment of fundamental rights in Georgia, namely freedom of the press and strengthening democratic and judicial institutions in line with the highest European standards.

France calls on the Georgian authorities to do everything possible to ensure that the forthcoming municipal elections are in line with the EU's democratic values, norms, and standards. He will pay special attention to any attempt to destabilize the democratic institutions of independent Georgia, which would be against the aspirations of the Georgian people and the interests of the European Union.

The President of the French Republic will remain in close contact with the President of Georgia in order to continue working for the strengthening of ties between the two countries," the statement said.
