The Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia met with the new Head of the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in Georgia, Marek Schigel.

According to the prime minister's press service, the sides discussed the role of the monitoring mission as the only international mechanism on the ground in ensuring regional security, stability, and peace in the country.

According to them, attention was paid to the recent security, humanitarian and human rights situation in the occupied regions of Georgia, as well as along the occupation line, and the recent cases of detention of Georgian citizens.

"During the meeting, the importance of resuming meetings on incident prevention and response mechanisms in Gali and Ergneti got stressed, and the need to use the format of the Geneva International Talks effectively. The unwavering will of the Georgian government for the peaceful settlement of the conflict was reiterated. Also, special attention was paid to the so-called necessity and importance of opening crossing points.

During the meeting with Giorgi Gakharia, Marek Schigel emphasized the successful fight of Georgia against COVID-19.

According to him, the activities of the Lugar Laboratory are recognized by the EU member states. Kakhaber Kemoklidze, the Chief of Staff of the National Security Council, attended the meeting held at the Government Administration," the Prime Minister's press office said.
