Healthcare Committee Chairman: After treatment, he will be transferred where he belongs

Chairman of Parliamentary Healthcare Committee Dimitri Khundadze said that Mikheil Saakashvili's proper treatment would be ensured, but the law would also be respected. ''If he needs treatment, he will be treated, but after treatment, he will be transferred where he belongs,'' Khundadze stressed.

The panel of doctors under Georgian ombudswoman Nino Lomjaria has issued an opinion, saying that ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili cannot be transferred to the Gldani prison from the Gori Military Hospital as he suffers a post-traumatic stress disorder and ''he must be subjected to treatment at a facility which does not evoke stressful memories.''

The hunger-striking president was transferred to the military hospital on Nov 20. He was detained on Oct 1.
