During his visit to Brussels, the prime minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili met with Olivér Várhelyi, the European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement.

As report.ge was told in the press service of the Government, during the meeting, the focus was on the main directions of Georgia-EU relations and the agenda of the Eastern Partnership Summit. It was noted that it is important that the summit's political declaration reflects the priority issues for Georgia, as well as reaffirms the strategic importance of the Eastern Partnership for the EU and its strong support for Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister highlighted important issues for the Georgian side, such as the gradual integration into the EU single market and the strengthening of energy and digital connectivity, including maximizing the potential of the Black Sea.

Talks focused on the adoption of a new Eastern Partnership agenda that will strengthen the security of the partner countries' economies, institutions, societies, environmental and digital transformation mechanisms. The new agenda includes the achievement of specific goals through the EU's new regional investment plan.

The Head of Government thanked EU Commissioner Várhelyi for presenting an economic investment plan to the Eastern Partnership countries during his recent visit to Georgia and noted that the Government of Georgia is actively taking steps to implement relevant projects. Irakli Gharibashvili stressed the importance of the support of the European Commission and EU member states in this effort.

The meeting held at the European Commission highlighted the progress made by Georgia on the path to European and Euro-Atlantic integration and the reforms implemented within the framework of the Association Agreement. The Prime Minister noted that the Government has an ambitious plan for Georgia to make a formal application for full membership in the European Union in 2024 and noted that reforms would continue on this path.
