The Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili met with the Secretary-General of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement Jagan Chapagain.

The meeting at the Government Administration focused on effective cooperation between the Government of Georgia and the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

The Prime Minister noted that the government welcomes the decision of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement to build a regional logistics hub in Georgia, in particular in the city of Rustavi, which includes both a warehouse system and a training center.

The Head of Government thanked the Secretary-General for the support provided by the organization in dealing with the effects of COVID-19. Mutual readiness was expressed to strengthen cooperation further.

The situation in the occupied territories of Georgia and the security and humanitarian difficulties were discussed at the meeting. The importance of international security mechanisms and the need to protect human rights on the ground were emphasized. It was noted that the Georgian government is pursuing a policy of peaceful resolution of the conflict. In this context, the "State Strategy for De-occupation and Peaceful Settlement of the Conflict" was mentioned as well as a peace initiative - "A Step Towards a Better Future," which aims to improve the socio-economic conditions of people living in the occupied territories and to restore trust between conflict-affected communities.

The meeting was attended by the President of the Georgian Red Cross, Natia Loladze.
