The Legal Issues Committee of the Parliament has approved constitutional amendments, with 11 members of the committee voting for them.

Members of the parliamentary majority and the Independent Deputies Faction, as well as deputy Eka Beselia also attended the meeting.

At the meeting, the committee members mentioned that a total of 92 Georgian Dream deputies approved the constitutional amendments, with members of the Independent Deputies having done so. In their words, at the plenary session, all seven members of the faction will support the initiation of changing the election system.

Members of the National Movement and European Georgia will also attend the meeting.

Per the draft constitutional amendments, a mixed electoral system (120 proportional mandates and 30 majoritarian seats) and a 1 percent barrier will be introduced in the 2020 elections. Additionally, according to draft amendments, a party that will get less than 40,54% of votes through the proportional system, will fail to form the government.
