The Ministry of Internal Affairs has released a statement regarding the arrest of Nika Melia, the chairperson of the United National Movement.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs notes that the police used the proportional force and special means provided by the law of coercion in the performance of their duties imposed on the Ministry of Internal Affairs by the court.

"The Ministry of Internal Affairs has enforced the decision of the Tbilisi City Court made on February 17 of 2021 to detain Nikanor Melia.

The law enforcers warned the citizens gathered in the office of the "National Movement" on the Kakheti Highway, Tbilisi, and the surrounding area not to interfere with the execution of the court decision and gave them a reasonable time.

Despite numerous warnings, those gathered at the party office did not obey the police's lawful request and resisted the law enforcers.

Accordingly, the police used proportionate force and special means provided by law to enforce their duties imposed on the Ministry of Internal Affairs by the court," the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated.
