''I have been preparing for a long time, and this was not my first attempt at returning to Georgia. Not everything went as planned. My first attempt proved almost tragic,'' ex-president Saakashvili, who is now behind bars, told the Mtavari Arkhi (Main Channel).
In Saakashvili's words, he did not want everyone to know about his return as any case scenario, including disturbance and slaughter, could have been expected then. ''They may have blamed us for their misdeeds.'' he said, adding ''I returned because I wanted to do so; I could not have done otherwise, and I actually think this is a turning point in our history,'' he stressed.
Ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili was detained on 1 October.
