"I would like to thank Parliament for its expedited consideration and support of the bill. I thank our people who have supported from the very first day this initiative of great public importance, which has the sole purpose of caring for our citizens, especially the youth, for future generations," Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili wrote on Facebook on the draft law on online gambling business, which the Parliament adopted in the third hearing.
According to the head of government, access to gambling will be restricted to 1 million adult citizens under the bill.
"Parliament passed the amendments initiated by me in the third hearing, which regulates the activities of the online gambling business.
From January 1, 2022, the tax base of the sector will increase by 65-70%.
From March 1, gambling will be prohibited for citizens under 25, socially vulnerable recipients of state benefits, public officials, persons who apply to the Revenue Service for the use of self-restraint, as well as those who are blacklisted by the court, or at the request of family members.
In total, access to gambling will be limited to 1 million adult citizens.
From March 1, control mechanisms will be tightened.
TV and outdoor advertising of the gambling business, as well as - placing advertisements on Georgian websites, will be prohibited.
Gambling companies will be allowed only to sign a sponsorship agreement," notes the Prime Minister.
