President Zurabishvili says Georgian Defense forces 'are symbol of unity'

Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has awarded a Medal of Honor to Vice-Colonel Tariel Berelidze, the Chief of the Guard of Honor of the National Guard under the Defence Ministry of Georgia, for his exemplary service. 

The ceremony was held at the Orbeliani palace. The president congratulated the Georgian defense forces on the National Guard Day and thanked them for their service before their country and people. Zurabishvili also paid homage to deceased guard members and stressed that the national guard is an important constituent element of the modern army and 'a symbol of unity.'

Additionally, the president stressed that defense forces play a unique role in national reconciliation, which is a complex process.

Grigol Liluashvili, the Head of the State Security Service of Georgia, and Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri attended the event. 

Chief of Defense Forces Giorgi Matiashvili also addressed guests at Orbeliani palace.
