''I have repeatedly come under attack during my four years of service as a public defender. I can remember unprecedented attacks by the former justice minister, but this attack was even more dangerous as it included threats rather than criticism only or attempts to hamper my activities,'' Public Defender Nino Lomjaria says concerning the statement by GD Chairman Irakli Kobakhidze.
In Lomjaria's words, the ruling party leaders threatened the ombudsman's experts and doctors for their readiness to perform their duties well. ''This was our new reality. However, first I did not take these threats seriously since I do not consider these people serious political actors. First of all, I do not deem the ruling party chairman a serious political actor since he does not have any kind of legitimation or recognition in the international community or a country in the West. I know this for certain,'' Lomjaria told TV Pirveli.
Irakli Kobakhidze defined the opinion by the panel of doctors under the public defender as fake, adding that legal proceedings may be instituted against them.
Nino Lomjaria issued a special statement later in response.
