''The arrest of a former president constitutes a great challenge for any country. It is a great challenge for the judicial system, penitentiary service, government, and the public. The arrest of the former and now convict president is based on the principles of justice and equality before the law.
I wish to address the government and the public and introduce them to my position. The former president's dignity cannot be violated in the first place as the ex-president is still connected to the state, and this cannot be disrespected. Accordingly, the release of the footage showing a violation of dignity and disrespectful treatment is absolutely inadmissible for me as the president of this country,'' Zurabishvili stressed.
The penitentiary service earlier released footage showing Mikheil Saakashvili transferred to the Gldani prison facility forcefully.
Former President Saakashvili, detained on 1 October, has been on a hunger strike for 48 days now.
